Accessibility Statement
The South Eastern Circuit is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA across the public site and member app. We design and build with accessibility in mind from the start, and review our pages regularly against the standard.
What we do
The site is built to:
- Be navigable by keyboard alone, with a logical tab order, a “Skip to content” link on every page, and a visible focus indicator on every control.
- Carry meaningful text alternatives for images and icons, and ARIA labelling for interactive elements where helpful.
- Maintain sufficient colour contrast for text and interface elements at our default settings.
- Work at common browser zoom levels and respect the user's font-size preferences.
- Use semantic HTML structure (headings, lists, landmarks) so assistive technology can navigate the page meaningfully.
Known limitations
We are aware of the following limitations and are working to address them:
- The interactive 3D Bar Mess map at /about/bar-messes relies on visual rendering for region selection. A 2D fallback is served below 768px, and a full textual list of all eleven Bar Messes (with their constituent courts) sits alongside the map on the same page for screen-reader users.
- Some older PDF documents in the publications library predate our current accessibility standards and have not yet been reissued in tagged form. We are reformatting these as they come up for renewal.
- Until 21st September 2026 this site had no “Skip to content” link, and a number of form fields suppressed the browser's focus outline without replacing it, so it was not always possible to see which control was selected when navigating by keyboard. Both have been corrected. If you find a control whose focus is still hard to see, please tell us using the address below and we will treat it as a fault rather than a preference.
Feedback
If you encounter a barrier on this site, or have a suggestion for an accessibility improvement, please contact us:
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within five working days.
Enforcement
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the public-sector accessibility regulations. The SEC is not a public-sector body and is not formally subject to those regulations, but we hold ourselves to the same standard. If you are not satisfied with how we respond to accessibility feedback, you can also raise concerns with the EHRC.
