About the Mess
The East Anglian Bar Mess draws its membership from those who practise in Suffolk and Norfolk, serving the court centres of Ipswich Crown Court and Norwich Crown Court. It is a community rooted in the two great county towns of East Anglia, and membership is drawn principally from barristers at East Anglian Chambers, Octagon Chambers, Red Lion Chambers — particularly those based at their Chelmsford premises — and Drystone Chambers, as well as practitioners from further afield who regularly appear in the region.
The Mess enjoys close links with the local judiciary, many of whom come from the same chambers tradition, and holds regular social and professional events across the two counties. East Anglia has its own legal culture — its courts have their own character, their own Bench, and their own particular rhythms — and the Mess exists to sustain and celebrate that community.
Any barrister practising in Suffolk or Norfolk is warmly welcome to join.
