About the Mess
The North London Bar Mess covers three of the busiest Crown Court centres in London: Snaresbrook, Harrow and Wood Green. Between them, these courts handle an enormous volume and variety of criminal work, and the Mess exists to give the barristers who appear there a collective voice, a sense of community, and practical representation at Court User Committees and criminal justice liaison committees at each individual court.
The Mess maintains separate representatives at each of its three court centres, ensuring that local concerns — about listing, facilities, relationships with court staff — are dealt with by practitioners who know the specific court and its particular dynamics. A CPS Liaison representative provides a point of contact across the prosecutorial relationship.
The Mess is actively seeking new members at all levels of call and across all practice areas. If you practise regularly at Snaresbrook, Harrow or Wood Green, your Mess wants to hear from you.
